What I keep in my suticase

I love to fly away to new and amazing places. The last two years, though, kept me on the same route as my husband attended Yale University. We would fly out to Newark and take a helicopter into the city. Stash our luggage at the Yale Club across from Grand Central Station. Have dinner with a friend who would drive us to New Haven, CT. Sometimes we would take the train. And sometimes we would Uber. It was exciting and exhausting at the same time. My husband seemed to have an easier time packing each week than I did. Yes, I have to try on each and every outfit for my ever changing body.
Not sure if you have this issue. As a mom of three boys and now in my mid-fourties, I find that I can be three- four different dress sizes. Sometimes all in the same day. Mostly, it just matters what week it is. If I stayed away from soy and dairy or cheated. I can’t just pack anything and expect it to fit or work. Then there are the dresses that are a little too revealing, and they need undershirts. I can never remember which ones. It’s always a big disappointment when I don’t pack the right accessories to make the outfit work. Or the skirts that need a little boost from Spanx to keep a clean look. So, yes, I try everything on.
But I noticed my husband always had some stuff in his bag. I took note and copied. Instead of trying to find all my makeup and cosmetics for each trip I bought extra of everything. I found this bag on Amazon. It’s been a lifesaver. I bought two! I now have one for my suitcase and one for my daily routine that I also bring to the gym with me. This bag is terrific, and here is what I fill it with.
- Hairbrush
- eye cream
- Vit c cream
- face cream
- makeup wipes
- foundation
- liquid blush
- mascara
- eye shadows
- brushes
- tweezers
- setting powder
- liquid eyeliner
- shower cap
- contact solution
In the middle, I keep a little pharmacy:
- emergency C
- bandaids
- Advil
- Tylenol
- Tylenol PM
- Immodium
- contact case
- extra set of contacts
I was hesitant about buying extra makeup, but it was the best thing I’ve ever done. It has saved me time and I hardly ever forget anything. I put my shampoo and conditioner in a different bag. I have different sizes depending on how long I will be gone. And a second bottle of contact solution.
The other things I always have in my suitcase are: a pair of vuori all the feels shorts, a long, thin black sweater, and Lulu ribbed black yoga pants. These items I seem to always need but never have. The sweater and yoga pants are great because they can be layered when the weather turns, or as predicted. The shorts can be put under dresses and skirts or used as pj bottoms. I love these nightgowns I found on Amazon and always keep one in my bag.
Now when I go pack, I just have to figure out what I’m wearing, what purse and shoes to bring. Which is enough stress for me. When I get home, I refill my items in the bag and put everything back into the suitcase for the next trip.
Love to hear about your travel hacks. I have many more I would like to share… another time 😉
May of the love and joy be in your life today!
