Breaking Free: The Mindset Shift from Poverty to Prosperity

A clip from my upcoming book: Rasal Your Way to Victory!

We’ve Been Programmed

Since birth, we’ve been programmed. Life experiences along the way continue to shape and mold the way we think. Those we surround ourselves with influence how we think and feel. It’s not surprising that if your parents struggled with money, so do you. Or if your friends make a certain income, so do you.

But here’s the real question: How do you break free?

The Secret the Wealthy Know

The wealthy keep succeeding in life because they have the programming—the thought process that keeps them moving towards success. And here’s what you need to understand: you can learn this too.

The Bible tells us: “Be transformed by the renewal of your mind.” Not only to be transformed, but to “take EVERY THOUGHT CAPTIVE.”

Which Mindset Do You Have?

Before anything else, you need to know: Do you operate from a mindset of Prosperity or Poverty?

The Abundant Mindset

  • Live in trust (Trust the Lord—Proverbs 3:5)
  • – Commit to moving forward no matter what; when you fail, you try again
  • – Make decisions from a place of expansion and deliberate choice
  • – Make decisions confidently and boldly
  • – Operate from overflow (God will bless you abundantly—2 Corinthians 9:8)
  • – Feel gratitude for what you have
  • – Go for it freely, without hesitation

The Poverty Mindset

  • Belief that there isn’t enough to go around—money is scarce
  • – Thoughts of lack, fear, and limitation
  • – Money is hard to earn
  • – I’m not lucky
  • – Success is hard
  • – Belief that opportunity is rare
  • – Filling your mind with distractions instead of inspiration
  • – Hesitation, doubt, and fear about your future
  • – Making decisions from a place of lack
  • – Overthinking everything
  • – Operating from need rather than abundance
  • – Complaining about what you don’t have
  • – Waiting for permission

My Own Spiral

Everyday I have to check myself. Actually, this last two months I’ve been spiraling in the poverty mindset. The problem in front of me looked so big. Those around me weren’t encouraging—they threw flames on my fire of fear and doubt.

But here’s what I realized: It’s okay if you find yourself operating in a poverty mindset.

How to Capture Those Thoughts

When you catch yourself thinking in lack, here’s what to do: capture those thoughts and put them to the Word of God. God tells us to think on what is pure, just, and right. To not fear the things of this world. To not worry.

Three Daily Practices

  1. Practice Gratitude Daily – When your heart is joyful and full of gratitude, it’s hard to be sad. Make this a non-negotiable daily practice.

2. Check Your Mind and Thoughts – Are you hopeful for the future? Do you trust God, your spouse, yourself—that you can get through the challenge before you? Daily mental checkpoints are essential.

3. Correct the Pattern – Correcting a bad habit is hard at first. Over time it becomes easier, and then you don’t need the correction anymore because it’s part of you.

It’s Never Too Late

If you had bad programming from birth, if you weren’t born into the right family, if bad things happened along the way—it’s never too late to embrace abundance and prosperity in your life.

You can change.

Change the way you think. Change the way you feel. Then your actions will follow.

Seize the Day

Your future isn’t determined by your past. Your mindset is the most powerful tool you have. Starting today, you have the power to choose abundance.
